User Guide

Everything you need to know about Lección Diaria.

Getting Started

Profiles: When you first open the app, create a profile. Each profile has its own progress, settings, and level. You can create multiple profiles (e.g. for family members).

Placement Test: New profiles are offered a placement test to determine your Spanish level (A1–C2). The test adapts to your answers — harder questions appear as you get more right. You can choose 10, 20, or 40 questions. Based on your result, content below your level is automatically marked as known so you can start at the right difficulty.

Today Screen: Your daily dashboard shows your XP, streak, how many items are due for review, and quick links to continue learning or start a practice drill.

Learn Tab

The Learn tab is your hub for structured lessons. It contains four sections:

Verbs
Six tools for mastering Spanish conjugation:
  • Learn New Verbs — Flashcards that show a verb and tense on the front and the full conjugation table on the back. Flip the card and rate how well you knew it.
  • Conjugation Drill — Given a verb, tense, and subject, type the correct conjugation. Uses an accent bar for special characters.
  • Verb Quiz — Multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank questions about verb forms.
  • Irregular Patterns — Verbs grouped by stem-change pattern (e→ie, o→ue, e→i, etc.) so you can practice similar irregularities together.
  • Verb Browser — Search and filter all verbs by type (regular, irregular, stem-changing, reflexive).
  • Conjugation Reference — Look up the full conjugation table for any verb across all tenses and moods.
Vocabulary
Build your word bank across thematic categories:
  • Category Browse — Vocabulary organized by theme (food, family, work, travel, etc.). Each category has Learn (flashcards), Quiz (multiple choice), and Gender Drill modes.
  • Themed Sets — Situational vocabulary for real-life scenarios like "At the Restaurant" or "At the Airport", with dialogues and context.
  • Search — Search across all vocabulary by Spanish or English word.
Grammar
Lessons organized by CEFR level (A1–C2):

Each grammar lesson explains a concept with examples, then tests your understanding with a quiz. Topics range from basic articles and adjectives to subjunctive mood and conditional sentences.

Numbers
Three exercises for number fluency:
  • Learn Numbers — Cardinal and ordinal numbers with pronunciation.
  • Number Quiz — Practice writing numbers in Spanish words.
  • Telling Time — Learn to tell time the Spanish way (Son las tres y cuarto).
Practice Tab

The Practice tab offers a variety of exercises to sharpen different skills:

  • Phrases — Common phrases for everyday situations (greetings, directions, shopping, etc.). Learn with flashcards and test with quizzes.
  • Minimal Pairs — Choose between easily confused pairs like ser/estar, por/para, or preterite/imperfect in context sentences.
  • Sentence Construction — Arrange scrambled words into the correct Spanish word order.
  • Cloze Passages — Fill in missing words in context paragraphs. Tests grammar and vocabulary together.
  • Translation Drills — Translate English sentences into Spanish. Accent bar provided for special characters.
  • Dictation — Listen to a Spanish sentence and type exactly what you hear. Supports normal and slow playback speeds.
  • Reading Comprehension — Short passages with comprehension questions, filtered by level (A1–C1).
  • Pronunciation Guide — A reference for Spanish sounds, stress rules, and regional pronunciation differences.
  • Phonetic Pairs — Hear and distinguish similar sounds (e.g. R vs RR, B vs V).
  • Homophones — Words that sound the same but have different spellings and meanings.
  • Connectors — Practice linking words like sin embargo, además, por lo tanto in context.
Culture Tab

The Culture tab lets you explore the Spanish-speaking world through engaging content:

  • Learning Paths — Structured curriculum tracks from beginner to advanced. Each path builds on the last with a mix of lessons, quizzes, and exercises.
  • Conversations — Practice dialogues and role-play scenarios.
  • Music — Explore Spanish-language music and learn through lyrics.
  • Movies — Film and cinema from the Spanish-speaking world.
  • Poetry — Spanish poetry and literary works.
  • Folk Tales — Traditional stories from Spanish-speaking cultures.
  • Recipes — Learn cooking vocabulary through authentic recipes.
  • Sports — Sports culture and vocabulary.
  • Festivals — Cultural celebrations and holidays.
  • Travel — Geography, landmarks, and travel vocabulary.
  • History — Key historical events and figures.
  • Proverbs — Traditional Spanish sayings and their meanings.
  • Idioms — Idiomatic expressions and how to use them.
  • Trivia — Fun facts about Spanish-speaking countries.
  • Jokes — Learn humor and wordplay in Spanish.

Each culture module includes vocabulary, reading content, and a quiz to test what you learned.

Spaced Repetition (FSRS)

Lección Diaria uses FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler), a scientifically-backed algorithm that schedules reviews at the optimal time to maximize long-term memory.

How it works: After learning an item (verb, word, phrase, etc.), you rate how well you knew it:

Again → Hard → Good → Easy
Didn't know it → Struggled → Knew it → Too easy

Based on your rating, the algorithm calculates when you'll next need to review that item. Easy items are shown less often; difficult ones appear more frequently.

Mastery Levels: Items progress through 4 mastery levels as your memory strengthens. Higher mastery means longer intervals between reviews.

Due for Review: The Today screen shows how many items across all modules are due. Tap to start a mixed review session that draws from verbs, vocabulary, grammar, phrases, and every practice type.

Tip: Review daily for best results! Even 5 minutes a day keeps your memory strong.

Stats & Progress

XP (Experience Points): You earn XP for every exercise you complete. Correct answers earn 5 XP; incorrect answers still earn 1 XP for the effort. Your total XP is shown in the nav bar.

Streak: Your streak counts consecutive days of practice. The fire icon (🔥) in the nav bar shows your current streak. Miss a day and it resets — stay motivated!

Stats Screen: The Stats tab shows your mastery breakdown across all modules, category-by-category progress, accuracy rates, and a practice calendar heatmap showing your daily activity.

Progress Export: In Settings, you can export your progress as a JSON file for backup, and import it later or on another device.

Settings

Access Settings from the gear icon in the nav bar, or from the Stats tab.
